What your Big Three actually means
When someone asks for your sign, they mean your Sun, and that is only a third of the picture. Astrology reads three placements together, and each one describes a different layer of a person.
Your Sun is the core: what motivates you and what you are working toward. Your Moon is the private layer, meaning how you process feeling and what you need in order to feel safe. It is the part close friends see and strangers do not. Your Rising, also called the Ascendant, is the doorway: the impression you make in the first few minutes, before anyone knows you.
This is why two people born under the same Sun sign can feel nothing alike. They share a core motivation, but their inner life and the way they come across can be completely different.
How it is calculated
Your Sun sign comes from your birth date alone, so it is the one placement almost everyone already knows.
The Moon moves roughly 13 degrees a day and changes sign every two to two and a half days. A birth date narrows it down; a birth time pins it exactly.
The Rising sign changes about every two hours and depends on where on Earth you were born. Without a birth time it cannot be calculated at all, so if you leave the time blank, this test gives you the Sun and Moon and skips the Rising instead of guessing at it.
Common questions
- I do not know my birth time. Can I still use this?
- Yes. You will get your Sun, and your Moon in most cases. Only the Rising sign strictly requires a time. If your Moon sign changed on your birthday, the result will say so instead of picking one at random.
- Why is my Rising different from another site?
- Usually a time zone or house system difference. Historical daylight-saving rules vary by country and year, and an hour of drift is enough to shift the Rising into the next sign. Check that the birthplace and time you entered match your birth certificate.
- Is this the same as Korean saju?
- No. Saju reads the four pillars of your birth moment through the Chinese calendar and the five elements. Western astrology reads planetary positions against the zodiac. The two traditions run on different logic, and one is not a translation of the other.
- Is it free?
- Yes, and you do not need an account. We do not send anything you type to a server.
