Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Big Five?

The Big Five — also called the Five Factor Model or OCEAN — is the most widely accepted personality framework in academic psychology. It measures five broad traits (Openness, Conscientiousness, Extraversion, Agreeableness, Neuroticism) as continuous scores from low to high, rather than placing you in a fixed "type".

How is the Big Five different from MBTI?

MBTI sorts you into one of 16 discrete types. The Big Five gives you five separate percentage scores on independent dimensions. Because it treats personality as a spectrum, it captures more nuance and has stronger scientific support — researchers use it to predict job performance, health outcomes, and relationship quality.

Is high Neuroticism bad?

Not necessarily. High Neuroticism means you feel emotions intensely and notice threats quickly — which can be exhausting but also makes you empathetic and careful. Many creative and conscientious people score higher on Neuroticism. The goal is self-awareness, not optimization.

Which trait predicts success?

Conscientiousness is the single strongest predictor of academic and career outcomes across studies. Openness correlates with creativity and adaptability; Agreeableness with relationship satisfaction. No single trait is universally "best."

Can my Big Five scores change?

Yes. Conscientiousness and Agreeableness tend to increase with age; Neuroticism usually decreases. Significant life events (parenthood, career changes, therapy) can shift your scores noticeably.
